I have just moved my gelding to a new yard. However it is a small yard and at the moment there are two mares in the field with him. To my dismay the mare is very tarty and wants his attention all the time. The stable is in the field and when I take him to it she is there hanging her head over nuzzling him. She keeps away from me that isn't the problem. I'm very worried that my gelding is going to form a strong bond with her which will cause separation anxiety etc. He was displaying anxiety in his stable tonight.
The owners have said that they can put her and her companion in the next field if I'm not happy with how things are. This would mean my gelding would be alone in his field but they could talk, nuzzle etc over the gate. I'm already worried that the bond has been formed and my biggest fear is that he will stop being the calm boy he is and become stressed out over this highly strung mare. I think I will try the separate field approach. Has anyone else had this problem? Just wish another gelding would come to the yard!

Is he showing any signs of stress now? If he isn't then I wouldn't worry too much. Just make sure you take him away out of sight as often as you can. Strong bonds can form between geldings as well as between geldings and mares.
I think you're worrying too soon really, just carry on as normal and see how they go.
