After my lesson yesterday it was quite clear to see that my young horse doesn't know or perhaps understand the aid to move off / away from the leg. My instructer told me to get off and she got a short crop and just tapped him behind the girth and he started to move away as you would expect, she did this on both reins.
Next she tapped him on the shoulders to encourage his forehand to move away and again he did as he was told, I got on and applied the leg aid and again he moved away, we also backed this up with a voice aid.
We carried on with the rest of the lesson and again at the end we were asked to halt in the middle of the school and again asked him to move away from the leg which he did.
My question finally is, is there any other steps I can do to encourage him further to move away when asked, my instructer is a firm believer that alot of work can be done from the ground as this makes it easier to work with them on top.
Any advice thoughts would be great.
