On Monday my foal will be moving from his current yard to my friends place for a couple of months so he can be weaned, and I'm really nervous about it!
He has been in a trailer before, when he moved from his place of foaling to the current yars which was apprximately a 50 minute journey. On Monday it should take 20 minutes.
I've discussed it with his breeder (who will be doing the loading/driving etc) and he decided it would be better to take Blitz by himself. Blitz is pretty independent, but mum is still watchful, and the breeder said he expects more problems from Salsa than Blitz.
Having never done this before I'm not too sure what to expect.
I don't have any travel boots small enough for him, would bandaging with polo wraps/stable bandages be adequate?
I had planned on unloading and putting straight into his new box for a while before turning him out for half an hour or so. Introductions to my friends horses will have to be done in hand at first, though I'm hoping her mare will act as auntie.
*back patting and "there, there it'll be all right" noises most welcome*
