Went to see the yard today & it is very professional, if I ring to let them know what time we arrive horses will be groomed & tacked up ready to go..................
However having thought about all the positives have decided that despite all on our ownsome, & very tiring with FT job, FL not for me. brought them in tonight, lots of fuss and don't have to make an appointment to give them a carrot. Other reason is my sister is looking to loan 12'2 for her daughter & wants to bring it to our yard. That's all I need another mouth to feed & take care of

For me, one of the most enjoyable things about having your own place is doing what you want when you want; I get just as much pleasure in looking after them, as I do riding them.

My friend has her horse on FL even though she only works 2 days a week. She turns up to ride, and thats it; She wonders why he buggers off whenever she goes to catch him!

I think it would be harder to form a bond with a horse if you don't spend quality time with it. I know its impossible for some people with work/kids etc.

My horse is on full livery but does not mean that i do not spend quality time with him or do not have a bond!?!
I go mostly seven days, every morning. I get up at six so that i have time to be with him and ride him before work. I make up his feed, his haynet, turn him out, check water, groom him etc. I just do not muck out, but help out when i have more time at the weekend etc. Just because on full livery does not make one lazy or disinterested.

Me too! Am a control freak, i like to do these little bits, to make sure it is done the way i like it! Used to be on DIY but time issues make full livery easier, just find it hard to let go!

I've recently moved to full livery and find it very difficult. The yard I'm at is fantastic and can't say a bad word but I find I don't get the same enjoyment of just going up to ride and not being involved in all aspects of her care. With having two young children and working I don't feel I can justify 100 a week and the time spent with her that I would like so am going to go back to 30 a week DIY and more quality time with my horse. I think my horse is equally cared for either way but I'm selfish and am putting my needs first.

think your making the right decision.

i was on full livery from getting my 1st pony when i was 11, so for 14 years i have been on full livery, then 3 months ago i found a place close to home i didnt even know existed that did diy so i decided to give it a try and i absolutely love it!!! wouldnt go back to full, ive had my horse 8 months now and i knew him better after 2 weeks of diy than i ever knew him!! i love having all the control over his care/feed etc and as i bought him from the breeder he was also used to 1 on 1 and hes so much happier n we have an amazing relationship now!!!

I know! It seems to take me just as long to ride, untack, groom, do feed/hay etc as it did to do everything when i was on DIY!
