I have a dilemma i am thinking of moving from my yard to a field with no water and no electric, although a close by house has said he will let me have water. I am going because my yard mate has had a hard time on our yard with various people BUT i am very unsure as the there are no proper stables more like a run down shelter area and no other horses apart from my friends so when she is riding my boy will be alone (he is 31 and arab, i know he will not like being left)

I know the field will be cheaper and more peaceful without the yard politics but i am trying to do the right thing by my boy, anybody else has experience of life in a field with no electric etc

I think you would be best to leave him where he is. I left my old girl in livery with my friend when we relocated as she's 35 and I just didn't think it was fair to move her. And I definitely wouldn't be wanting to change their 'lifestyle' at that age. If it was somewhere with proper stabling and he would have a companion when your friend was out riding that would be something to consider, but not the scenario you describe.

I would probably stay where you are - it sounds like you are moving to keep your friend happy. You could just explain that you dont think your chap will like being left and you cant risk him being silly and hurting himself if he hooliles around when on own.

Do what is right for you and your chap, its hard sometimes but you may have to let her down.

ps have my own place, electric not a problem but water would be an issue (the person could let you down about the water or expect something in return) as would decent hardstanding and security

At his age, I wouldn't. A friend did move a horse of a similar age successfuly, but it was with her long time field companion to a place with a similar set up to the old yard. And she did only move because new management meant if she hadn't moved, she would have been in an unstable herd of 20+ horses, instead of with a fixed herd with other oldies.

Yep gonna have to tell her today, me being me trying to keep everybody happy which is hard work. Have to do what i think is best for him like you say.

Hopefully she will understand, thank you for your time:)

I did exactly the same thing last year and coped fine, and the horses seem so much happier. It also gives you a lot more freedom to do what you want.

At his age, however, I would think long and hard about causing him any upset.

I thought that too, they keep on about hose pipe bans so he could get funny about supplying us. I know i will be worrying when i am not there as he could be laying hurt for hours... yep made my mind up...thank you..appreciate it!

You have made the right descision, He is an eldery boy and the move he might take, but being left on his own would be bad enough, but in a strange place even worse. If your friend had a field companion and he was being checked throughout the day that would be better. I think you would be ok with the water as the ban won't be for animals. All things considered you would be right to stay where you are.

Hi every day i dream of having my own land away from the hustle and bustle of a yard and the rest but that’s a long story! :D I would move to day, if I could find some where to rent that was for soul use.

In regards to electric can you get a generator? You can get them from ebay for around £50.

Water should be ok if you can borrow from neighbours’ like you said fill a couple of water butts: p:p

In regards to horsie being on own, when friend rides. Can you get her a companion? May be a Shetland: D (my boy like small horses ) lol:D

What ever you decide good look and I hope you both will be happy.

Yes! feeling better now, a problem shared and all that, thank you. Yes i know livestock arent included in ban but he may just want to keep his quota for his roses if you see what i mean, its all very uncertain, one thing i have learnt in my life is you can never be sure what people are going to do next.

Such a weight off me now a decision has been made..appreciate you time:)

I thought about a generator and yes could fill water up but field stable/shelter is a long walk from his house.

I also thought about buying a small shetland but i think if i do that then i may as well go all the way and get a place completely on my own so i can manage the land etc etc and not have anybody else there.

Think this one has too many negs to make the move, thank you for your input:)
