Ok, so my husband has the opportunity to move to singapore with his company, it's an amazing opportunity and a once in a life time one.

Thing is, nothing will part me from my horse so before he can accept we need to seriously look into this.

1. How much does it cost?
2. What is the steps to starting to move him, what does it all involve?
3. Anyone had horses in singapore?!

Of course we are flying out first to have a look, and make enquiries.

Just wondered if anyone has any infomation at all, its a bit over whelming at the moment.

Thanks :)

I think you need to go and look at the situation first and consider how well you horse could adapt to the tropical conditions, what sort of riding is on offer, etc.

Have a chat with millreef on here, I think she is actually in HK but it's the same sort of climate.

Grab the opportunity to live out there with both hands, it would be a shame to miss out on it. I am sure your horse will adapt. I turned down a once in a lifetime job in the UAE because of a horse and I will regret that decision until the day I die.

Pedens International is another shipping company that will give you any info you need as well, they deal with all the paperwork etc that you need.

In terms of rough costs, logistics, quarantine and jabs requirements contact one of the shippers like Pedens or BBA shipping. Both have websites with contact details. In terms of keeping a horse there expect there arent tons of options so ask around and when you go out there take a look. Its a big expat place so good chance there are some expat websites that have info or you migth be able to speak to someone who has done it. In terms of weather etc my expectation would be that its humid but they might have fans or a/c - check, and turnout might be limited.

I havent done singapore but I did take my chap to the UAE for two years. He went in the autumn and came back in the summer which was best for acclimatisation and he had A/C in his stable in the summer and sand paddock turnout. He was fine. Mostly they travel pretty well on the plane. The plane will be either a chartered or a scheduled freight flight - depending on how many horses go there (usually it will be racehorses) you probably wont have a huge choice of flights, you will want to share as a jet pallet stalls for 3 and the cost of 3 horses in one pallet (which is like a little trailer / stable type box with 3 stalls) is the same as 1 horse and 2 empty spaces pretty much.

I used BBA and they were very good. They do 90 per cent of the work for you, and my experience is they text you when they land, push back to take off etc.

mine came from dubai to Scotland :)
i believe the transporters did all the paperwork.
as above, they travel in threes and have a groom with them the whole time

Go to www.angloinfo.com and put some feelers out on the Singapore pages. There will be people over there that might be able to give you some useful information before you even go over to have a look around.
Good luck with it all. :)

I contacted IRT (International Racehorse Transport) when I was looking into moving my lad to Australia. It was going to cost £13500, but they do it all from quarrantine to the flights and all the paperwork. Worrying bit for me was that the contracts you have to sign do state that they have the right to euthanise your horse if there is a problem inflight  Don't imagine it happens often though and I'm sure they'll do everything they can to avoid it.

Thankyou everyone, thats brilliant. I dont dare let myself get excited yet, theres so much to consider.

I've contacted all the main horse transporters for quotes, hopefully they wont make my eyes pop too much!

Not quote as far but we are looking to move to France and i know when i contacted a few transporters they told me that they always dealt with all of the paperwork/ passports and so on so i am sure that contacting them is the best way to go initially as you have done :)
