Hello

Im considering moving to Tenerife with my horses!!!

Does anyone know approx what a wage for a groom/BHSAI would be over there?

also how would my horses fare changing there diet to mainly straw/beet/nuts and very very little hay!!!!!!!!!

do you think they adapt to the climate easy?

What type of horses do you have??

It can get terribly hot out there - I'm not sure I would move them to that sort of climate myself......

I moved one of my mares with me. She left England in +10 degrees and arrived in a very chilly -20 degrees. That first winter we had many days which hit lows of -40 degrees and then in the summer went up to +40 degrees. My mare coped perfectly well and now a few years later it's like she has always lived here. They do adapt very well to changes in climate so that wouldn't worry me. The thing which may concern me would be the dramatic change in diet and the lack of hay and grazing. The other thing that I would look at closely are the vets in the area. I wouldn't want to be somewhere that has no decent equine vet around.

There are a few people on here who have moved their horses overseas and these horses have had major changes in the way they are now being kept - I don't think anyone has had any problems with the changeover though.

hi im really interested in this too as im thinking about moving mine to australia at the end of year / next year possibly (once settled / dependant on success of loan home / finances etc) and some people have asked "why not take him now / then" and others have said "no way he wont cope" so what does a horse owner do?? he is a hairy cob though so of course i know that doesnt help my cause! good luck with your moving of horses to tenerife, my best mate works at an andalusian riding ranch in spain - the owners moved there from uk to start it - so im sure if you want any advice i can swap your email addies via pm.

great thanks!

there is an equestrian federation, shows, and a good handful of vets so should be ok with that. There is a lack of grazing - grass wise, but turnout and the stables have turnout pens attached.
just obviously they have to buy in hay/straw from the mainland so the will have less forage then normal, thats my only concern really.... suppose id have to get as much "readigrass" as possible!!

My friend moved to Romania last summer, we took there 16.2hh cleveland bay over for them in July. He coped very well to change he is very happy even though it got as low as -25 outside through the winter.

we also took some english haylage and hay out with us so the diet could change slowly. electrolites are essential during a hot long distance journey.

Contact a shipping agent in this coutry before you go they are brilliant, and will help with all aspects of you journey. good luck
