Weve just moved house, yesterday, Claude was shut in the bathroom whilst we unloaded. He's now allowed round the new house which he's enjoyed exploring. How long should I keep him shut in the house for?

At least 10 days to two weeks, especially if you aren't too far from your old house so he may return there. Mine got well used to a litter tray in the period after we moved, and still used it months later so I had to move it outside! Don't risk letting him out too soon, they will travel miles in search of their old territory.

We advise three weeks to be on the safe side

We've moved to another county, so a pretty good distance away. He was a stray that found us and moved in! He's pretty chilled out. We shut him in the bathroom whilst unloading the van and then he's allowed around the house to explore at night. Will see how he gets on after a couple of weeks.

Usually 3 weeks is fine.
If he is sharp/nervous then probably 4 weeks minimum up to 6 weeks

That said, on one move I did 20+ yrs ago, we let him out about a week at the most later. No probs, but then he was a very lazy, rather a tuppence short of a shilling type of mog..................:D
