How is everyone? I've been missing for a while now due to a heavy workload, finishing off a graduate class, and buying a house. Then there is the pesky time difference that means that when I finally sit down every day, everyone is sleeping :(.

So, it's the house move that I wondered if you, the AAD experts, could help me with ...

We will be moving into the new house towards the end of this month. We've been there painting and such for the last couple of weekends and will be there the next few weekends too and will likely stay for a night or two here or there before going back to our current house. We've been taken the Galupy dogs with us and they've been hanging out in the new house and most recently in the garden since we had it fenced. We've moved some of their blankets so that they have somewhere familiar to sleep while they are just hanging out and we've left them alone in there a couple of times for a couple of hours (to go and eat). We've also fed them their evening meal a couple of times when we've been there late. They seem ok so far, but the Galupy dogs can be a little neurotic ... and they love their routine ... so my question is ... is there anything else we can do to help them transition easily or do you think we have it covered so far? We are also changing their lifestyle a little - from living in a city environment to a country one ... from essentially no garden to a rather large, securely fenced one that they will have free range of most of the time whether we are there or not.

I might not be able to log on often tomorrow ... but I will try and I would really appreciate any tips you have as we get ready to move. I've not moved house with neurotic dogs before ... the Galupy dogs are "special." :D
 
Good luck and enjoy your new Galupy Country Estate! Only bit of advice I can offer is get your tags/chips changed asap! First thing I did while moving (like as in while the movers were in / out of new house, left doors open) was lose my old blind dog! She was found wandering like Mr Magoo over at the farm next door, nose to the ground and having a right good roam. Think the farmer's lads weren't sure if it was vermin (she's only the size of a large rat) or a pet...so they collected her up in arms and went door to door---never even noticed she had escaped the pen we set up in the enclosed garden! DOH!

Thanks PnP - we are paranoid enough to have them all registered not only with the chip maker but also with the AKC chip registry so I will make sure I change both of them and I've already ordered their new tags. Licensing them with the town will also provide another method of them being identified and thankfully our new neighbours already know them by sight in case they do find them on their land. I'm not quite sure what we will do with them on actual moving day yet otherwise I see the same thing happening to us, minus the Mr Magoo-like wandering ...
 
Sounds exciting and sounds like you have covered everything, their gradual introduction will now have laid their scent and made the environment a familiar one, esp with their doggy beds:D:D I bet they are loving their new found garden freedom:)

Thanks Cayla, I was hoping we were on the right track with them with getting them exposure to it all before we make the final move.

Two out of three are loving the new found freedom with lots of running and rolling in the grass. We're keeping an eye on the third one because he tucked his tail between his legs and ran back in the house when I let him off the lead out there for the first time. He lived out in the garden at his previous home and never really had any interaction with people there and he is a huge people-dog so I think it was really hard on him. We're going to keep an eye on him to make sure he knows he can go in and out and interact with us as he likes and also go out there with him for a while too. Any ideas on this issue would be fantastic too.
