Have absolutely loved the odd day out with Coakham or Kent and Surrey Bloodhounds in the past.

Moving to Cambs now though, so will get on the MFH website to check local hunts. Not been out with foxhounds since I was a kid - but can people tell me about their local hunts anywhere 30/40 miles of Cambridge area and whether any are known for nice hedge days. I loved the bloodhounds because you knew the lines were laid purely for horse-and-rider fun, and you know you wouldn't jump something with wire behind, but is "foxhunting" like this too now with dragged lines?

Fitzwilliam - we have some nice jumping days mainly around Milton & Gidding. Generally nice hunt jumps around 2'6'' to 3' in height of telegraph pole construction and a few natural hedges. We use a mixture of flushing to a bird of prey and laid trails as do our neighbours at the Cambridgeshire with Enfield Chace. Kennels based at Peterborough at the centre of our hunt country. We're on Facebook if you want to see what social events we have going on.

Cambridgeshire with Enfield Chace - nice gang of folk, using the same exemption as Fitzwilliam, based further South towards Cambridge than the Fitz. Country fairly similar to us.

Cambridge University Draghounds - cover the area of the Fitzwilliam but also get into Essex, Suffolk & Leicestershire too.

The Oakley, Thurlow, Puckeridge & Bicester also hunt parts of Cambridgeshire but the bulk of their country is within other counties namely Bedfordshire, Suffolk, Hertfordshire & Oxfordshire.

Our other close neighbour is the Woodland Pytchley - based at Brigstock the far side of Peterborough in Northamptonshire they are a friendly bunch with some nice jumping days too.

East Anglian Bloodhounds are also within striking distance if they can find some help to keep going.

You also have the Eastern Counties Minkhounds/ Northamptonshire Minkhounds and the Trinity Foot & South Herts Beagles for some foot pack fun.

This is a handy reminder, thanks CC - have just emailed Enfield Chace asking for more info as suspect they are closer to me in Herts than the Kimblewick.
