Moving on from 13.2 - disadvantages of moving straight to a 15.1?

We were planning a 14.2 for daughters next pony, however a 15.1 has come up and he's lovely. I've been told that it would be a shame to be 'out of ponies'. Why? No local pc sj or xc seem to have height restrictions - just age (she's 13 and tallish but slsight). What are he pros and cons?
 
Tbh unless you were wanting to do junior bs then there are no cons! I wish we had done that instead of doing the 14hh thing! It just means she would be competing against mainly adults, if she is happy to do that then go for it.xx
 
None really! If the horse is not ridiculously big and the child not overhorsed. Lots of kids at PC seem to go onto horses very quicky.

My stepson went from 13.2 to 17h at 13 and a half yrs old. He just shot up, we sold his pony and let him ride his dad's steady horse with the idea of getting something 15-15.2 a few months later at the end of winter. Mother nature had other ideas, thank goodness we didn't - he looks tall on my 16h mare now, so he stayed on dad's giraffe horse!
 
As long as the horse isn't actually miles too big the only issue is classes with height restrictions, & if you don't see that being a problem it really doesn't matter.
 
I did it - was fine :)

Only thing I regret is not being on ponies to do BS juniors but I wouldn't have known that until I was way out of juniors and got bitten by the BS bug!
 
If he suits and she looks fine, then the problems are tiny. She can't do pony trials or junior BS. But everything else is fair game. Quite a few children in our PC do the 13.2hh to 15hh leap, and find the slight pony-esque way of the 15hh introduces them to the world of horses far better. When they then move onto a 'proper' horse, they don't face the usually massive leap backwards as they figure out the striding malarkey.
 
My 11yr old daughter went from a 13.3 to a 15.2 cob with no probs at all. Thankfully new mare is lovely and forward going with brakes and manners to burn which helped with the transition. So glad we didn't go for a smaller horse as her new mare will last her until she goes to Uni and then I'll gladly take over the reins.
