So thankfully (kisses the ground) my overheating horsebox wasnt really overheating, it was a failed sensor and seems fine now the it has been replaced, thank you everyone for your input on my previous post.
Tonight the Mechanic come to replace it, weather has been awful so had to cancel and the damn thing was dead as a dodo, fine on Sunday when it 'overheated'. Turns out one of the engine batteries is totally dead, so new battery fitted and happy days. It does have an isolator, which I use each time but the odd thing is the tacho light is still on and the clock going. Mechanic doesnt think this is the reason for the flat battery but I cant understand why the tacho light is on. The engine is immobilised by the isolator but why not the tacho?? I thought that was the reason for an isolator???
Any ideas.
Thanks for any input into the dreaded horsebox saga :D

You are not allowed to cut the power source to the tacho with an isolator. Either you have to take a battery terminal off every time your done or run it enough to start. If you take off the positive terminal the tacho feed will be between or behind that.

Thanks for replying.
I know on my last lorry, the isolator cut everything, no red light on the tacho. I had read the tacho can drain the battery?? I was wondering if this is the reason my battery was dead, they arent old batteries but then the wagon hasnt done much since they were fitted and I know whilst it was having work done on it some wally left it all night with the light on, completely draining them.
One thing I have learnt from thes is a tilt cab is an absolute must. Mines been tilted so many times recently.
Thanks again

If you are using the box privately and it is under 7.5 tonnes there is no problem in switching off the tacho via the isolator. In fact I am not convinced there is even a problem with vehicles subject to operator licensing and tacho regs. I think someone has not fitted your isolator correctly. What vehicle is this by the way?

It could easily be the tacho light. My lorry has an isolator but the camera into horse area is fitted outside that loop and ran the battery down once when it wasn't used for a couple of weeks. I now take the fuse out of the camera wire if leaving it for more than a couple of days.

Thanks again for your replies. I thought I had read the tacho can drain the battery. Its odd though as Im sure I remember at some point the tacho red light being off and thinking, well at least that works.... but somehow it seems to be staying on now???
Mike007, it is an Iveco 75e15 and the isolator was fit by the person who left the lights on all night  Obviously, they hadnt isolated it that night  It does stop power to the wagon as I tried it last night just to make sure. Theres a thick wire coming from the isolator to the battery terminal, I think..... but Im sure it just goes to the battery that didnt go dead and not the dud one. I could be wrong though hmmmmm. Not sure if this is of any relevance. Im thinking maybe just removing the fuse now, Ive had enough :(
Whispers.... which fuse is it :o

Blonde moment lol
The isolator goes to the first battery terminal and the batterie are 'joined' by another. Thicko :o
The red light on the tacho was shining as bright as ever this morning, so what ever the isolator is doing, it aint isolating the tacho :(
