I'm hoping to move up to Scotland in the next few months with my 2 horses and boyfriend. We're looking at a few properties in the Scottish Borders as this is where we want to settle. I have two boys, the first is retired Boris who is getting on now and is on Cushings for his Pergolide and my riding horse is Max who has had previous problems with collateral ligaments and foot imbalance. Therefore I wondered if any of you knew of any good (cheap if possible) horse vets and farriers in that area. Look forward to hearing your comments. Thank you

Hi, and hopefully welcome to the Borders! I moved to the area four years ago from North Yorkshire. Its a beautiful place with friendly people although the equine "scene" was different from what I was used to- much fewer indoor arenas, no BSJA and less "happy hackers" although the eventing, hunting etc makeup for it.

I can reccommend Stuart Shiel as a farrier if you can get on his list- (Please PM me for the ones I wouldn't like to reccommend). and Reed, Brown and Cameron vets at St Boswells are superb. Hawick vets (Brown, Simpson and Stobo) are good too.

Best wishes,

Claire

Renton and Swann Vets in Duns - recommend. Number will be in the book. No such thing as a cheap vet or farrier! You get what you pay for!
