was just thinking while i was riding my boy tonight..

how do you know when youre ready to move up a class in dressage? My boy and i complete prelim, we are doing OK - last time out we got around 68.75 and a 9 for our walk. At home, we have good medium trots, walk to canter, shoulder in-s, leg yields etc.. ive never ridden a novice test tho - only have prelims at home, but i dont think prelims challenge him ( or me ) enough now...

so when do you know?

this is all unaffiliated tho i hope to do BD on a ticket some time in Nov just to see how we go.

You don’t know really until you try! Sounds like you are more then ready to me though! Just go and do it, the worse that will happen is you get a lower percent!

I agree give it a try and see how you get on. My instructor says that when you are consistently scoring well into the sixties that you should try the next level.

Go for it

You can do very well at novice even if one or 2 moves you havn't really 'got' as most moves are still simple working trot/canter/walk TBH....

You should definitely aim to do to a novice test if you are scoring well quite consistently. I think the challenge would be quite enjoyable, learning some new moves and taking your schooling to another level.
Give it a go!

well we definiteluy dont have a straight rein back yet - im sure there will be some challenges definitely... but i guess i can give it a try - are they much more complicated than prelims - because i have such a hard time remembering them LOL!

:^D

Good grief! Sounds like you were probably ready quite a while ago!

The tests aren't much more complicated, nor much longer. I'm sure you'll do well!

If you struggle to remember the test I you can have someone reading test for you anyway. Also, there's a DVD by Richard Davison showing you how all the Novice tests should be ridden which might help you remember

go for it! i had to start on Novice as that was the class for the interschools, so have only done about 3 prelims (these were in ODE's!). They arent too bad just dont think of them as any harder just another prelim

you'll be fine if your getting those marks!
