okay so i have a 4 year old who i am going to move yards, im moving with one of her field mates so should help as will be together in box, stables next to each other & same field. also they have the exact same routine but she knows when something is happening and last time she got very stressed and started sweating. she is TB X and a young mare so she is very sensitive and i think because i was darting about getting everything ready it made her worse as i think she felt abandoned and unsettled! how can i make it better this time as i have to move everything over and then her over all on one day to this new yard. doesnt help as they day i have to move her is a busy day at the yard. (no choice on moving days already spoken to the owner) and its a weekday the day after so cant spend the day helping her settle in with me there! any advice (also cant mix the bed as im going from straw to woodchip!)

I would turn her out, so she cant see whats going on, get all your stuff moved over stable cleaned etc gey her in from field, brush her off boot her up and go, make sure stable is ready the other end, or better still field where you can turn both out together on their own for a day or 2. :)

thats what i thought but at the moment my horse is on straw however this new yard does not allow straw on the yard only chips, plus its a massively OCD yard i mean seriously bad. so theres no way to have the soiled bedding for her with her new bedding :/

Keep her normal routine as much as possible on the day at old yard. Sort her out however you normally would in the morning then load up all your stuff and take it over, maybe pack it all up the night before apart from what you'll need in the morning. Then bring her in or pull her out the box, boot up (if you do) load up with her friend and go. Don't faff around her all morning, worrying how she will be 'feeling' she will only pick up on your anxiety. Don't worry if she gets a bit anxious and sweaty, she is a young horse who hasn't travelled much, she will do, just settle her in new yard with plenty of hay and leave her be to get used to surroundings. Fussing over them and peering at them every 10 mins only unsettles them.
FWIW i moved my 3.5 year old at the beginning of the month, she has travelled once at 5 months when she was moved to my old yard and hasn't been off the property since. On move day i pulled her out the field, got a bucket of feed and she strolled almost straight up the ramp, we shut her in and drove off, same procedure at the other end, she ambled off the ramp like she owned the place, straight into the field, head down, eating. The others at her new field were much more bothered than she was.
Good luck with your move :)
