Im in a right dilemma about what to do with my daughters pony.
Im currently at a large DIY yard, which ive been at a year, i know alot of the people and get on really well with them, i also get lifts to lots of shows and as i dont have my own transprt its quite important as my daughter loves competing, and in that respect im really happy. The facillities arent the best but they do for an 11.2 pony.
There are some issues i have with the yard though, they have a lot of turnout but its badly managed which means in the winter the fields can be shut for a few weeks at a time, there then open them for a few weeks then shut them again, the only free time my little pony gets is loose in the school, hes fine with this but im of the opion they need regular turnout. In the summer they can live out 24/7 but also i have to be care as my pony with his previous loaner was on the verge or laminits. They also recently rented a block of 12 stables to a a girl who runs this as a seperate full livery part, they seem to be taking over, the school get 'booked up' for apparent clinics but its more so they can have private use of the school fot there liveries and as there a large group they can afford to pay the 2.50 charge to book it. I on the other hand already pay livery so dont want to book the school for my daughter to ride and have to pay everytime. I have approached the YO about this she just shrugs it off as i think they bring in to much income as they pay for 12 stables regardless of whether there full or not.
Ive not been offered a DIY spot at another yard, i do know the lady quite well, my daughter is starting the same class as hers at school, and as have been in the same area for years and friends been at the yard, she emailed me to offer the stable. Its mainly a full livery yard with hacking direct onto Windsor Great Park, turn out not amazing but very well managed for what they have they go out on alternate days through the winter and daily in the summer but not overnight. They also have a horsewalker, not that ill really use this. The only other 2 DIYs are for her friends. Shes mainly offered this stable to me as she wants a riding partner for her daughter. But this will benifit mine too.
The downside is they dont go to many shows it is slightly more money but better facilties so paying for what you get.
I just feel torn i love the people that im at now, its taken a year for me to get settled there and i do earn extra cash for teaching clipping and that a my current yard. And they do help me over the winter with putting haynets ect. I know i will probaly settle in the new place and get all this its just that comfort thing. Maybe i need a kick up at the arse, in theory the new yard would be better for pony but hes settled to (not that he cares where is as long as hes fed!!)
Id be greatfull for Your opions, sorry for the long winded thing, i just dont want to rush and make the wrong choice, as the yard im presently at, the lady gets funny when you move and doesnt tend to take previous liveries back!!
Also like to mention this area its DIY is hard to come by and the good yards you can wait a year on the waiting list and ive not even been on it, so dont want to turn it down with no though!!!
