MRI experiences?

My boy is being referred for MRI at the Dick vet Edinburgh to try and find out what is going on with his foot. Has anyone experienced it and can set my mind at ease? He is a very good boy to handle and to go to vets so I expect he will see it as a great day out while I will be a nervous wreck!
 
Mine had an MRI scan at B&W hospital in 2022. I dropped him off at 9am and collected later that evening. I believe they did the scan in the morning which lasted about 3 hours, but he had plenty of time afterwards to recover from the sedation.

The staff seemed great, it was very well organised and they communicated with me throughout.

Also forgot to mention it took about 48 hours for their vet to send the report to my vet. So he had the MRI on Monday and I knew the findings by Thursday or Friday morning when my vet went through them with me.

I've had/known of a few horses MRI'd at Dick Vet, you have nothing to worry about. The worst that will happen is that the sedation won't be effective enough and they will move on the image and it will have to be redone (only had that once though). Hope you get your answers, the reading of the images is a specialist job and can take a few days. You/your vet then get a long report about what's been found and whether they think that might be your issue. Often there are findings that may not be relevant, that's the skill of the person reading the MRI.

Thankyou. He is generally very good about standing for stuff to be done so here's hoping. I expect it will be a long day, then an even longer couple of days for the results. I think I am prepared for bad news but as the vet said yesterday, we will then know what we are dealing with rather than guessing.
 
Depending on which insurance company you are with or the terms of your policy, they may only pay half the cost of the MRI scan so speak to them beforehand.
I know NFU Mutual are one that didn't used to pay for the whole cost.
 
Mine had one at Oakham vets, I was given a verbal description of the findings on the day, but the written report, which was extensive, took a while to come. Mine had fidgeted a bit and had to have stuff repeated, they have to stand still for ages. They remove the shoes, mine was barefoot so it didn't make any difference but it's something to consider wrt farrier visits.
 
Mine was MRI'd yesterday - all very straight forward.

Vet's were pleased I had the farrier remove her shoes before she arrived there.

She was finished by lunchtime but had been very still so they didn't have to repeat any images. I got verbal findings today but don't expect the written report for about a week.
