Muck boots tyne riding boot - anyone have them?

Hi,
I am fed up of painful ice cold feet in my MH rimfrost (they just aren't anywhere near warm enough!) and am thinking of getting muck boot tynes to ride in. I have the tay sport which are simply amazing but far too bulky to even think about riding in.
If you have the tyne how do you find them to ride in? I wouldn't be schooling in them, just for hacks, but they do need to be safe enough that if I part company with my mare I get my feet back!
Any info on them? Have also noticed they do a Tyne sport - a warmer version of the tyne. I might just be in heaven if they are as warm as the tay sport - perfect!!!

I think that those are the muck boots that I have. They're very very warm - wonderful in this weather, not good from Spring to Autumn! I ride in mine, but they are substantially bigger than normal riding boots, so if you have small stirrups they may be tight, and therefore not that safe... Measure your stirrups perhaps and then try them in the shop in similar stirrups? Mine are on their third winter this year.

They're a hybrid really - much thicker than a normal riding boot - more tread and lining... They have a heal etc and are safe to ride in, just check your stirrup is big enoug - or they wouldn't be a safe combination...

I have the basic Tyne riding boot, have had them for 4 years now and I love them. They are toasty warm whilst riding. I would definitely recommend

Seriously ugly as far as riding boots go, but I wouldn't be without them! Lovely to have warm feet when stamping through thick ice ... Surprisingly decent "feel" when riding, but a lot more welly-like around the foot - echo the comment about stirrup size.

Just because product is sold to do a certain thing doesn't necessarily mean it is very good at it!
Unfortunatly I'm without transport atm so would order online. They are quite expensive so I just wanted to get some peoples views on them.
I have wider stirrup irons for my MH so I hope they will be big enough. Just worry really as strictly speaking they are wellies and being a 'by the old fashioned rules' type of person it has been drummed in to my never to ride in wellies!

I have the Tyne's in a size 5 and the soles at their widest point, measured underneath, are 3.5ins/9cm. Hope that is some help!!

Im on my 2nd pair & i absolutely love them for winter i don't care how ugly they are they do the job very well. I have found them fine for riding in but i normally switch to my leather boots anyway.

I love mine!! I find them hard to wear if schooling cos can't feel much but for hacking they are fab!! I never have cold feet while everyone else is complaining!! They are not the grippiest thing in the world though so you do have to watch your step. But for warmth you cannot beat them!! Definately being warm is a bigger plus than the disadvantages!!

Oh, that's really helpful, thank you! Thats less than I was imagining (the tay sports are seriously chunky!). I'm a size 6, and have 4 3/4'' bent irons so sounds like all would be well!
Oh dear, card needs to prepare for another battering!

I'm in 4.5in irons and they are fine. I'll echo cobgirlie though, not wonderful for schooling in but for cold weather hacking they're great. If you like to wear lots of socks I'd go up a size as I'm normally a size 4. I have the derwent wellies in a size 4 and they're quite 'snug' around the foot.

Ace! I think that's decided then! I'm not fussed about feel (other than actually feeling my toes!) or looks, I just need my feet to stop being so horribly cold through. I must admit that with the tay sport I haven't needed extra socks. They just seem to have brought out a 'sport' version of the tyne which has extra insulation - oh how lovely my hacks will be now!!!

I have had 3 pairs, but the last 2 have split around the ball of my foot and they also come away at the seam at the back. I did however wear them all the time (even in the summer!), but they are not cheap, so I would have obviously preferred them to last longer than a year.

I love mine too despite the rubber peeling away from the neoprene on the sides where my legs meet my saddle! and the strip that runs down the back is peeling off after only buying them in September of this year!!!

theyre still waterproof & very very warm and the company i bought them from have been in touch with Muck Boot, who are replacing them for me.

Gosh, that is bad that they have started falling apart already - you would def expect them to last better than that.
Thank you for the link, good price! I think I'm going to get the sport version though, the blurb says that they have extra neoprene around the toes and arch, aswell as fleece all through. Anything warmer is a good thing in my book as my feet seem to get inhumanly cold!

My 2nd pair did the same after just 1 winter (my 1st winter lasted me 3 years!) so I took them back to the shop that I had bought them from, who sent them back to the manufacturers, and I've just received a brand new pair from them!

I think they're great, although I wouldn't agree with the person who said they had no grip - Mine have loads, I feel much safer in them in this ice!

I have Woof Wear easy close long boots that are designed for riding, very warm, have a much better grip than the muck boots and are about £25 cheaper.

I've seen those, they do look lovely and warm. Prob is that I'm rather sturdy in the lower leg - I think these would make me look too butch for words! The muck boots seem to be a little kinder to my appearence!

I've had mine since January & they're still in good nick, but I didn't wear them in the summer as they're too warm.

They are much wider though across the foot so bear this in mind as others have said with regard to your stirrups. They're wider than my Hunters for instance, so can't see that they're a lot 'safer' than conventional wellies with a heel.

CeeBee - contact your supplier & get them replaced. I did this with a short pair of MuckBoots I had - they sent me a new pair as soon as they got MuckBoot's authorisation.

Glosgirl - you've said you're sturdy in the calf - I wouldn't recommend the Tynes in that case - I am also calf-challenged (!) and found that because they didn't fit my calves properly, my ankles got rubbed really badly - I persevered as I thought they would bed-in but they didn't and I ended up selling them to someone else at half the price I paid.

Also, can highly recommend Woolsthorpe Wellies - they were the ones that organised my replacement boots, they were a joy to deal with and also very good prices.

Tynes are excellent for riding in but lethal for walking across an icy yard. The smooth sole makes them safe for riding and keeping your tootsies toasty, but no good for yard work... you'd deffo need to change back to your Tay's afterwards. I'm on the Derwents now after two pairs of Tynes and love them

My calves aren't massively wide, but the rest of me is pretty up and down so I look fairly stupid! Am hopeful the tynes should fit well enough.
