Quick pick of everyones brains, Im moving to a new yard in 3 weeks (rental of private yard) and there is nothing on site currently for a muck heap. obviously with 4 horses there will be a fast building heap that isn't going to rot down as quick as I fill it if I was to build a muck heap area. I know some yards have trailers, skips etc or have them collected. does anybody have any input as to what is easiest and most cost effective? or have any contacts that could provide a service?

So far my horses have been living out 24/7/365 so I've just created muck heaps in the fields. When there is a load there I get a local company to collect it by tractor and trailer for £40 a load. It costs me about £160-200 a year to clear muck from 3 horses.

I got quotes for a concrete base and sleeper midden but they were from £3-6k. The company I use don't like trailers as they prefer to collect with theirs. They prefer sleepers than a concrete surround as this is more flexible if they touch it with the tractor bucket. I still haven't decided if I am going to build a single muck heap or carry on as I have been once the stable yard is built. As far as I found out from our council's website there are more regulations attached to a static muck heap than a temporary one which is located in different areas each time and collected regularly. I'd like to see what others say on this topic as I need to make a decision soon.
