Hey Guys,

A question... as some of you may/may not know I am moving Jags to my own private yard at my OH's dads home... and I'm VERY excited...

HOWEVER thinking practically I have a few questions...

How do you get rid of your muck?

I am looking to remove on a weekly basis and plan to put either into big builders sacks or straight onto a trailer...

SO .... where can I get rid of it? I for some reason think that the local 'tip' won't take it?

Should I contact local farmers/farm shops/nursery's?

HELP ME!! LOL!

P.S - It's straw. x

Doubtful local tip will take it - ours won't a mate who lives 30 miles away does use the tip.

Have you looked in local tack shops for farmers advertising? We have a farmer guy bring us a 3 tonne trailer, we fill it with poo, ring him, he brings empty trailer and swaps them over. Costs £30 a load - 2 horses works out about every 3-4 weeks.

Bonus for us is that farmer up the road is going to do exactly the same but for nothing!

I bag mine and distibute between Mum's keen gardener friends. But then again I have mats and rice husks so it rots down quicker.

I would put an ad in lcoal paper and see what response you get and perhaps contact local farmers. What happens to the muck already? I remember you said there was 2 donkeys there?

Contact as many local farmers as you can as someone may be willing to take it for you on a regular basis. Old yard had this arrangement although had to pay each time the trailer was emptied.

Trying to get locals/ the tip to take it for the garden just doesnt work and you will end up with tons of the stuff hanging about.

Sadly this is one aspect of having your own place that generally costs you money to deal with unless you are very lucky.

[/ QUOTE ]Someone takes the donkeys muck at the moment - however isn't interested - as far as I am aware - in having HUGE amounts to deal with!!!

[/ QUOTE ]Thanks Spaniel, have just spoken to one farmer and he's not interested.. will get dad on the case I think!!

I don't mind the cost as I'm not paying livery but just need to know what OH's dad will be happy with as the stables are in direct view of his house. x

If you are happy with a bit extra cost, Why not think seriously about investing in rubber mats? Then the actual amount of manure you have to deal with will be seriously reduced in the first place! It will then be less of a problem to think about and be less cost getting it taken away.

[/ QUOTE ]Hey, I already have rubber matting but do still put a bed down... neddy has to have banks as he has a habit of rolling indoors... so wouldn't want him getting cast - he's actually cleaner on more bedding than little have tried sooooo many options over the years re-bedding amounts/types etc!!

Well I know what you mean about minging rugs
frown.gif
but the upside is that I am a freak and wash them alot anyway and they get no more minging than if they had a really deep bed - I have 3 mucky little buggers!!!

I would very seriously advise mucking out into bags and at least then there is ABSOLUTELY no muck heap. At least then you ahve more options as to how to get rid of it, (unless you can find a farmer). I have to muck out into bags cos I'm in my mums garden and she is a keen KEEN gardner and I hate the smell of the muck anyway so its cleaner!!
