When we have had a lot of rain the water/sewage from the muck heap drains off into adjoining field. This field is grazed in the summer and I have always wondered if this "fertiliser/sewage" is harmful to horses. The grass is always quite lush and horse has not suffered any ill-effects so far, but Ive always been a bit concerned, especially as I might be using it this year !

I wouldn't be overly concerned as it wiill be well watered down and you'll probably find that the horses wont eat that patch anyway - they're pretty good at knowing what is good grass and what isn't.

They probably won't eat that grass as its likely to be sour, but it definitely won't do them any harm. Our run off goes into a drain and is piped to the slurry tank under the cattle shed, it was either this or put a roof over the muck heap:eek:. (Department of Agriculture red tape of course)
