HI apologies if this topic has already been covered

I am on a small yard - that we manage ourselves - & therefore have to get rid of our muck

Up until last year we bagged everything up - left by the gate & was normally collected after a few days -no nasty big muck heap.

We have only been having the odd bag collected this year - so I have a big pile of bags at the back of the stables - that I am now delivering to the local allotments - its a large allotments & they will have muck & shavings etc that we can supply - but they are not too keen on straw - we have stopped using straw now but I still have quite a bit to get rid of - what do other people do with the used straw

I could send it up to the allotments but I want to keep them happy - any advice gratefully received xx

We use it as mulch, straw rotten down is amazing stuff, I think your allotment people are nuts! Luckily OH is a gardener so all ours gets used for clients :)

I have a small muckheap at home. i keep it small by using hemp or flax as bedding. it is more expensive than shavings, but it is easier to use, more absorbant and makes a smaller muckheap that rots much faster. For the future I would say use a different type of bedding and muck out into a trailer that you can take directly to the allotments. As for what you already have, you are going to have to pay a farmer or muckaway company.

Perhaps contact the local council and see if you can find out which farmers take their green waste. The farmers may allow you to dump your straw muck with their green waste?
