How long does it normally take you to muck out etc?
Do you do a full muck out everyday?
Whats your routine etc

Just interested to see how everyone does it, and pick up some helpful tips!

never owned, sharing at the moment but dont have to muck out as owner is happy to do it, looking after friends horse for 2 weeks (18.2hh 4yo shire :o ) and it seems to take me FOREVER to muck out.
he makes such a mess. I pick up the 'obvious' poo as I like to call it (poo you can see  ) then even out the rest but as I do that pick up any random bits of poo I find which tends to be quite a lot -.-, then even out the banks etc- this normally takes like 25 mins which I feel is quite slow :/

Then every 5 days or so I chuck all the bedding against the wall onto the banks so the dirt/poo/muck rolls to the bottom- pick it up. do that for the whole bed so only clean is left- bring it down and even out then put new bedding up for banks. this takes soooo long! like an hour ish.

anyone? :)

Generally about 20 mins ish. More if it looks like hes had a house party!!
Hes on shavings at the moment but am switching to wood pellets next month.

I pick up poos with by hand (gloved obvs!) Then sort the we from the dry; banking the clean stuff to the sides and chucking the wet into a pile at the front of the stable.once all the clean is banked up i sweep the floor. Shovel it out do water then haynets.

He can be minging tho! If he doesnt want to be in he trashes the joint and it took me about an hour the last time he did it!

you get better with practice! i would only do a full muck out.....i have a clean bed.. so should my horse! i can now do whole muck out, shake out clean bedding, fork up, turn banks, re-do bed to perfection...( no shaving out of place...i no ocd....) and put a new bale in, sweep and hay all within 20mins if horse hasnt mashed bed... 25mins if it has... 15mins at a push if short on time and had my morning shreddies :) !

takes me about 10 mins - my 17.2hh is the dirtiest beast ever so his bed is just taken out daily the middle bit anyway he is on straw (when on shavings the wet is left in till the weekend then its taken out which takes about 20mins)

my youngster is very clean and she takes about 5 mins but she is deep littered so she doesnt take long at all she is on straw too :)

im used to mucking out and im usually too cold to be hanging around when im mucking out i need them done before my hands are numb!!

approx 10 mins a box when horse is out of box. full muck out on shavings all pooh and wet out and relaid. clean shavings in on wed and sat am!
if in for the day skipped out lunch time and tea time/ as necs.
an extra 5 miins to do hay and clean out waterer. i am on shavings. Dont do straw as takes longer and much smellier.
My shavings beds are on rubber mats but still have full banks approx 2 feet high and full floor approx 8 to 10 inches deep.

5 minutes on straw if I'm not messing about, including laying bed and adding new straw. Means his stable can be sorted (bed, water, hay net, feed) in under 10 minutes if necessary.

Most days I spend about 20 minutes obsessing about it and taking my time. He is very clean and easy to do though.

10 minutes for the full bed stable. Full straw bed cleared to the floor daily, swept and rebedded. 5 for the pee patch bodies, also straw. As others have said you get quicker the more you practise.

I can do all 3 of mine in half an hour including the trek to the muck heap. They are on wood pellets. One is a chunky 15.2, one is a box walking 13.2 who poos for England, and the other is a Sec A. I skim the droppings off, take out any wet that has risen to the surface, fill in the holes, level the bed, sweep it back (very fussy about this!) and add new if needed in this time. And do their waters simultaneously.

10-20 mins usually!

Get all the obvious poo, then chuck it up against the wall so the bits I've missed roll down and then get out the wet :)

Once a week I move the mats and get down the cobwebs etc

It takes me about 30 mins to do a full muck out of a straw bed, brush out, put the bed down add any fresh straw needed and do water and hay.
My other bed is a deep litter woodchip and that just takes me 10 mins to poo pick daily and then once a week i remove any wet, which takes about half an hour.

Take out obvious poo, throw rest of clean bedding (shavings) up the walls and pick up any poo that falls down, level the wet layer (he's deep littered) and pat it down, pull all the bed into the middle then re-do banks and level bed, finally sweep back. Takes 20 mins.

Good god some if you are quick - or have very clean horses compared with mine

When I was on shavings, and took the whole bed out daily, it would take me about 45 mins to do my veteran (he has a huge stable) and about 25 mins for t'other one.

I've changed to ComfyBed now, and deep litter; they both take me 20 mins each to take out all poo, sweep & re-lay the beds.

I usually get a barrow or two out of the big fields, if everyone else is there to help. If not...

Foals pen (though they're not foals anymore! The name seems to have stuck..)
Jokers pen
Top pen
School or pony field(depending on where they are)
Big field
Working hunter
Show rings

We tend to have horses dotted all over the place :P takes me about an hour if I'm working fast, or 2hrs if I'm faffing.

Oh my god you're all so fast!!

If I have both horses to muck out it takes me about an hour - if I don't dilly dally about!

Start with Kelly (14.2hh, muckiest mare ever, poo hider extraordinaire!!) move visible poos, throw dry clean bedding off the top to one side, move the wet from underneath, sweep bits up, get under bankings and remove filthy bits, shake it all up, put bed back down, bankings up, new straw if needed.

Pebbles (16.2hh, slightly cleaner!) move visible poos, move clean bedding, get rid of any wet, sweep bits up, repair bankings (don't move these) shake it up, new bedding if needed.

Takes me forever!

One of the best tips I was ever given was to take the horse out of the stable and take the barrow, in then keep the fork moving fast!! Sounds obvious until you watch how some people dither with a fork of dirty bed.

Been working with horses many years now cue hundreds of stables in my time! You learn to get quick, some bosses don't tolerate 'slow' workers! Currently I muck out 5 shavings beds. I normally do it in about 40 mins from start to finish. It has to be done well. The whole works.
In Jan - March time, I have the brood mares and foals in on straw. I have about 90 mins to do anything up to 10 boxes, and they have to be immaculate! I sweat and don't stop!!

BUT, I love mucking out my own (when they are in) I can take my time and it can take about 15 mins per box - and the tap is outside the stables which helps so much regarding carrying buckets miles!! (and my barrow gets emptied for me too!!!)

Full muck out on straw usually takes 10 mins max, only ever get 1 barrow. I leave the bed up until tea time to dry out cos he's a very wet boy!!

On straw, do a full muckout each day & throw the bed up onto the bankings to dry. Usually takes me about 7/8 mins to muck out, do waters & hay, bring in clean straw & pile on bankings & empty barrow etc.

Max 5 minutes to skip out, throw bed up and remove wet and then obsessively sweep the stable into perfect lines :o

The about 2 minutes in the morning to put bed back down and add fresh straw. Most of the 2 minutes is being obsessive about having equal banks, equal depth of bed and straight lines. I like neat beds :o
