Mucous and coughing?

Had horse 2 months, and on a few occasions i've noticed that white mucous sometimes comes out from his nostrils. It doesn't seem to be getting any worse or better, just rumbling on. Today it was really hot, and he was quite sweaty and puffing a but when I went down to catch him. Schooled him for 20 mins or so, and went well. However he was coughing rather a lot and sometimes sounded like we do when we're a bit gunked up. I think it was worse possibly because of a high pollen count, or the heat, but is it worth putting him on a supplement, or next time the vets out at our yard (which will be in the next few days I should think) get her to have a quick check? He recently passed a 5 stage vetting and no probs with breathing.

If the vet is going to be there anyway I would ask her to have a quick look-cld be a pollen allergy or mild copd or if it is a virus at least you can get her to give you her opinion.
 
Mine gets very bothered with the pollen at this time of year so I see an increase in him blowing stuff out of his nose when we're riding and when we get back and also get some of the white trails as you describe. I have him on a breathing supplement all year round which really seems to help though. Pollen count here has been very high the last few days and I would say I can hear him breathing a bit more heavily when we're out on the bridleway where there's endless trees and plants so I'm trying to avoid riding at certain times of day and I try not to overdo it with what we do. The only other thing is if your school is sand it might get very dusty?...ours does, clouds of the stuff hang in the air at the moment when you go round. If your vet is coming out anyway, maybe just worth him checking him over.
