Hi all, I have recently moved my mare to a new yard. She is heavily feathered but has pig oil and sulphar applied fortnightly during the winter to try and preserve her feathers as much as poss....
Anyway, 2 weeks after moving I noticed her feathers getting shorter so put her out less, now today after a day out in the field yesterday, her feathers have almost disappeared!!
What I dont understand is it was just as muddy in her last place and her feathers were fine, is it poss that the soil is more acidic in the new place?? and does this mean I now have to keep her in forever??:(

I would apply pig oil and sulphur more regulary. And if she will let you ( I havent tried this but heard of it) get some tubex (stuff for sprained ankles etc and wrap clingfilm round legs and then tubex over. It might work....
