hi does anyone know a good cream or spray for mud fever. got my young coloured in today and gave him a good groom in the sun and to my horror hes got mud fever on all four legs !!! i've washed his legs with hibi scrub and dried them and put purple spray on them.. i feel so bad as my mum has been keeping an eye on them. any advise is better than none..

We've been quite lucky in the last year - we've escaped the Mud Rash (mostly due to a change of yard). Bob has had it in the past and I tried everything going to clear it. The only thing that actually worked was Robinsons Prevent It - about £5 for a big bottle. It cleared it up in no time. I can't see it on their website, they have Leg Guard for cracked heels - it might be worth ringing them to see if that's the same thing.

Hope this helps!!!!

Well I always use the same, hybiscrub to get rid of scabs, dry thourghly then put on something called pink lotion (think it is actually called that, bought from vet and bit expensive but works fantastically). If it is really bad I put on the pink lotion then wrap with cling film and bandage for the night to loosen scabs so they will come of with hybiscrub.

thanks its more pink and sore at the moment. poor little thing . hes even got it on his bottom lip !! hes very pink skined bless him. called vet about his lip and was told to put baby bonjella on it. which he seams to like

You're ment to use water-based products on mud fever to dilute the bacteria. Don't use oil-based products as it traps the bacteria in and takes longer to get rid of.
hybiscrub is probably the best thing to use, but make sure you dry it properly, as the bacteria feeds on the moist.

I use Aromaheel by Aromesse. You don't need to wash and pick scabs, so my horse definitely prefers it! It has a 100% satisfaction guarantee, so you can try it without worrying about being stuck with a pot of stuff that doesn't work.

Whatever you decide to try, I hope that you manage to get rid of it quickly.

My mare had it all last summer and after spending a fortune I found one of the best things was to feed mud guard (NAF make it) also I used a fungicidal spray from equine america which was good. I thought mud fever was a fungicide, only bacteria if you have an infection.
