mud fever in strange place

I had the vet look at my mare a couple of weeks ago and he said she had mud fever but it wasnt at the yellow scab stage.
It is right down the back of her front leg, in a line from her knee to top of fetlock. There are a few bits at side of fetlock but not much, none near heels or anywhere i would have expected it to be!
If its left the scabs just come out in her feathers but there are always ones still on her leg and it doesnt seem to bother her at all!
I was great at sorting it when my tb had it but im struggling with her.
Iv clipped all her feathers away and iv got rid of most of scabs but the scabs that she was getting are grey and rock hard. The skin under is flaky but not yellow or pussy like the scabs my tb had.
I use dermoline on it and iodine wash or hibi scrub if i need to clean it.
Im at a loss really and i wondered if anyone else had ever seen mud fever in this place and hard grey scabs not yellow pussy ones?
 
I would bet you £20 it is grease rather than mud fever - would you like my long PM or keeping hairy horses legs in healthy condition with show quality feather (should they have it). Basically it involves frontline and then lashings of pig oil and sulpur to stop anything coming back. My sudocream mix will get rid of the scabs.

Well iv got some pig oil already and iv got most of scabs off but i would love your mix to get rid.
she now already has the feathers clipped off on recommendation of the vet (oh am i going to be mad if it was uneccessary!), just on affected leg so i should be able to get on top of it. Good job she not showing at the mo she is a lovely dales mare i nearly cried taking off her feather!!!
 
My in foal mare has had this, has this, having never had it before. Hard grey flat scabs, very hard to penetrate. I have had the vet as it was on all 4 legs. Flamazine cream has really helped in 2 weeks it has almost gone. I bathed softly in hibiscrub, then softened them with udder cream worked in well, dried throughly, Then i applied flamazine and over the really thick areas i wrapped in cling film and bandaged overnight and the scabs lifted easily then used the flamazine. Expensive, but worth it.
 
My previous horse got mud fever on his belly from where the mud was kicked up from his feet. I was amazed as I only thought you got mud fever on legs at the time. I just treated it my washing in warm water, removing scabs drying thoroughly with a kitchen towel followed by normal towelling and covering in sudocrem.
 
kay seriously my cob has EXACTLY the same as yours! you are doing the right thing by keeping her feathers short but DONT over wash it-- just wash the mud off with water and then dry with a towel!

its not mud fever-- just scabby legs and most cobs apparently have it. My lil cob suffers from it quite badly but since discovering Camrosa ointment (which has become my fave product) its been like a miracle!!!

Sudocrem wont work- trust me! lol

Buy some camrosa from their website and then send you info on how to treat scabby legs and could bet you that ul see changes within a week.
