Mud fever Nizoral question!

Quick question re Nizoral - just popped to the shops and bought some boots branded 2% Ketoconazole as from a quick google search it appears this is the same thing as Nizoral (just an unbranded version) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketoconazole

Can anyone confirm that this is correct? If so this stuff is even cheaper and fingers crossed it will work on the new horse's mud fever :)

Have no idea about brand etc, but I used Nizoral on my horse's mud fever on white leg and didn't get spectacular results. Eventually got rid of it but with other products as well
 
Nizoral is a brand name used for the drug Ketoconazole, so yes it is the same thing.

Wether or not it will work on your horses mud fever depends on what is causing the condition.
If the culprit is fungal then yes the Ketoconazole will help.
But if the cause is bacterial then you'd need to soften the scabs, remove them (because the bacteria lives under the scabs), dry the skin and use an anti-bacterial agent such as Hibiscrub on the legs.
 
I have had amazing results with medical grade manuka honey called action. A friend who was a nurse gave it to me but it's also available on eBay, v cheap and 1-2 tubes did the job. Apply over scabs each day then washboff after 2 days and reapply as necessary. Works amazingly. If the nizoral doesn't work it might be worth a try.

Yes it will be the same - Nizoral & Sebizol are both 1 or 2% Ketaconizole. What you may find is that it doesn't lather up as well. I've tried a cheaper version here in NZ which was hard to lather up.

It will work though just as well.
