My horse has had what I thought was cracked heels on two feet for a week or so now and he has been not lame, but not quite right on his off hind which has the most scabbing (although it’s not bad). There’s a little scab on his heel and a little on his fetlock on each of the two legs. They aren’t oozing or anything. Then today he looked uncomfortable on the right rein on the lunge, so I stopped lunging and then noticed two blisters on his right bum cheek. He is also starting to get a little bald patch, but no scabbing or blistering yet on each front knee. Has anyone seen anything like it before? Vet just told me to hibiscrub and put antiseptic cream on and see if it gets better. He did long-line through the woods a couple of days before I noticed the cracked heel and the woods had quite a few brambles in, but didn’t see any cuts on him when we got back.

my mare had something similar, but only on her heels. My vet recommended a medicated, antibacterial dog shampoo and it cleared it. Id been struggling with it all winter, thinking it was mudfever, but now not sure.

I’m no help on what it actually is though, sorry.

Oh that’s interesting! It’s annoying when you never find out what it is though isn’t it?! I’m wondering if he got scratched by a bramble and has picked up a little fungal, or bacterial infection? He certainly hasn’t been stood in lots of wet mud as we’re on well draining sand soil and it’s been a drought. He also got his legs clipped a couple of weeks ago too. Strange...

i think now mine might have started with scabs from mites, then went to dermatitis. i couldn’t have antibiotics as mine also had a hoof abscess on the same leg, coincidentally. This is the shampoo. It’s not cheap but succeeded where everything else failed https://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/...ViYbVCh02UQcWEAQYDCABEgL29fD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
