My horse has terrible skin problems, he gets sweetitch and mudfever and the mudfever just wouldn't clear completely .A friend gave me some neem oil and soap and I washed his legs in the soap then rubbed the oil in. I did not wash them again but each day wiped the area with cotton wool and rubbed more oil in. I also have rubbed some in where he has rubbed because of the sweetitch and rubbed some around where his sweetitch rug does not cover[ around sheath area]
After 2 weeks of this the change is brilliant . The mud fever has cleared and he seem to get bitten less and is less itchy.
It is not expensive ,you can warm the oil to make it runny but I have found it softens with the heat of my fingers anyway and just rubs in.
I wonder if it is one of the ingredients of camerosa but it is much cheaper and not so messy.
If you try it and you find it works please let me know.Just google neem oil and there are lots of companies selling it.

i used it for my youngster's first attack of sweet itch this summer. she scrubbed half her mane and tail off in 1 day. i got neem oil to drench her mane and tail with, and gave her some neem powder in her feed, and *touch wood* she hasn't scratched since, even after i ran out. hadn't thought of using it for legs, will do! thanks.
