Willough has developed a sore pastern/heel. She has an open sore about 10p sized and all the skin in this area looks a bit orange peely and I'm concerned that the whole area will bubble up and peel off.
Last week when it was really wet she was in at night. This week in in day. She competed last weekend and was fine.

Looks to me as though an OR boot has rubbed slightly and bacteria may have got in.

Yesterday her fetlock area was warm and a bit puffy, but she doesn't seem to be very lame.

I have been cleaning it up and applying antiseptic, which she doesn't mind.
I have some dermobian in my secret stast, would that help.

My feeling is to keep it clean and cover it with antiseptic when she goes out. She is on mats so no bedding to irritate it.

If there is no improvement of it gets any worse I will talk to vets on Monday as she may need A/B's

She does not usually get mud fever.

Any ideas?

Did you use overreach boots? -this can set off a reaction in wet or hot weather. My mare is very suseptable in her heals and I swear by Camrosa which clears it up ad helps act as a barrier.

Had to scroll right across to read this, your sig is lovely but huge!

I wondered if the OR boots had rubbed and some grit had got in. She has always worn them as she comes through with her back legs a lot, she is built like a kangaroo with a higher backend.

Where do you get Camrosa from, I have also been told equr is good.

You can get camrosa from saddlers I think.

If you can get hold of some Caster and Zinc cream then use that, its magical healing waterproof stuff but a devil to get off handsso wear gloves!! I saw a similar thing to what you described when I was on work experience, looked like mud fever and had all the symptons but no mud around! The wet grass caused what this horse had.

If I were you I'd just keep it clean and dry and put caster and zinc on it and if it gets any worse call the vet out.

Hope she gets better x
