My mare came in from the field the other morning with the start of mud fever in her hind pastern. I know we have had alot of rain just lately but my fields are not like they get in the winter. I had the vet take a look at her as he came out to see to another problem. He seems to think she might be troubled with mites! I am not convinced. She is a warmblood and not very hairy.
She has been troubled with conjunctivitis which is under control now but she has been suffering from a secondary infection caused by the constant eye problem and the damn flies. She always wears a fly mask.
Has any body eles horse suffered from similar problem recently. My mare is incredibly sensitive to the fly bites and I have now invested in a really good fly rug but it doesn't explain the cracked heels, unless it's some kind of sunburn as she does have white legs! Any advise?....
