ditto wat nailed said. the best selling cream is MSM cream. i sell alot of it. its a very very good barrier cream. but it must go on clean and dry legs to be affective.
My girl had a terrible mud fever last autumn. Had to get the vet as i tried all sorts with no improvement. Vet prescribed flamazine. It is expensive but got it cheaper on the net and vet matched the price. Brilliant stuff used with hibiscrub and applied to dry legs, it cleared it all (and there was a lot) in a couple of weeks.
There are literally dozens of treatments for mud fever, and everyone you ask will tell you that their method is the best
. I use pig oil and flowers of sulphur on dry clean-ish legs after picking the worst of the scabs off. I use a squeezy bottle to get it on the leg and a soft nail brush to work it in to the skin. Twice a week till the scabs clear up and then once a week thereafter.
This is the best product ever! My mare never has mud fever now where as she used to be awful and everyone i know that has tried it says the same, you can put in on wet/damp legs, it gets all the scabs off and can last a couple of days! FAB!
IV Horse Mud Fever Prevention is excellent . Dont wash legs everyday as it dries the skin out and then it cracks and re infects ... So wash and dry once then put the MFP stuff on ... within 2-3 days ( depending how bad it is ) you should see a vast improvement .
