The vast majority of people on my yard seem to wash/brush the mud off the outside of their horses TO rugs when they bring them in at night. Is it scuzzy that I don't? I've never really seen the point but am willing to be enlightened.

Yes I'm aware that put together with the last post I now sound like a terrible owner but I can't imagine that Daisy minds

I was thinking tonight when i put him to bed... he'll dry and demud hes rug far better then if i took if off.. there'd be no chance for it to be dry for next morning. But alway check hes dry, clean and warm under the rug. When winter ever ends will send them off to be cleaned. I'm far to lazy!

Nope never do

Unless riding the horses up to the field my jodphurs clean there rugs nicely! mums always so happy to see my jodphurs in the washing basket!

Why bother

They'll only go out and plaster them in mud again when they get turned out in the morning.

dont scrape mud off, waste of time

but after we have finished using the rugs, like when it chenged to summer time

they go off to be cleaned at the rug cleaning place

Alright, I'll hold my hand up and admit to doing this :P

I'd like to stress that I dont think its necessary in anyway and nor do I think anyone who doesnt is a "bad mummy". But as some people know, I have slightly obsessive compulsive tendancies with my horse and its just something I do

There you go, you can all laugh away :P

Nope - only get a clean at the end of the winter, but no way would I bother scraping the mud off every day

. It probably gives them a better covering of insulation anyway

.

If I did that at my yard I'd be laughed off it!

<imagining face of YO if I went bonkers and started doing this> he he he he he.

Sorry if that makes me bad horse owner.

I'm sure I bought a blue rug!

Mine rolls, so can't see point, I wash it in Spring when he mo longer needs his thick rug.

Mine also sleeps in his outdoor rug.

what an absolute waste of time??? or are these people the type who find any excuse not to ride??!!

OK, I have done this the grand total of 3 times - each time I used a hose pipe and hosed Topper from top to toe - he left me with little choice in the matter, as I could hardly find him under the dripping, gloopy, clagged, wet shite and derision that was coveringhim - I could hardly find him or his rugs!! Therefore, it all got washed and when I found his rug, I removed it, dried him off and put him in clean dry jammies! That rug certainly was waterproof!!

It must be very odd seeing people grooming their rugs.... perhaps you shoult tell them they are supposed to take it off before thery groom. How bizarre
