Does anybody have any idea how I deal with what can only be called "mud rash" from hunting. Not mud fever as it affects everywhere the mud gets - legs, necks and belly and leaves bumpy and often scabby patches. I'm washing in Hibiscrub at the moment but was wondering if anybody knew what this was or how I treated it?

I don’t know if this will help as haven’t come across this problem but I find Keratex Mud Shield is fantastic for my cobs legs. Being a powder you could easily put a layer on anywhere on the body. Just an idea.

Sounds a bit like scould. Some of our hunters get it on their bellies and round the top of their legs.
We hubiscrub after hunting and then once a day until it's gone. Try to keep the area clean and dry imbetween.
As a precaution you could try the Keratex powder JOBO is talking about, I use it too, but it is white so may show up on your horse. Otherwise a oil based product, pig oil or baby oil would help to stop the mud sticking.

Universal medicated shampoo for dogs and cats is better than hibiscrub for washing. Use every 2nd day - its excellent for loosening the scabs.
Many vets have their own remedies for mud fever. You can PM me for more info on some of those if you want.
