Is there such a thing?

I really hate having muddy, grotty horses. My two live out, and mud is unavoidable, but it means scrubbing legs clean before riding (if I want to use boots or bandages) then leaving them in long enough for them to dry off. The yard gets drenched, unless I do it outside which just causes more mud.

There must be some method of mud-proofing??
 
I got some 7 day mud away from robinsons. Doesnt last 7 days tho
When I sprayed it realised it was very similar to baby oil. So now I stoat baby oil on muddy areas and rub it in. Dirt just comes off much easier. However it's not cheap as I can only find johnsons baby oil :( and a small bottle or does 2/4 applications. Lasting 1 or 2 turn outs
 
Hmm, baby oil eh? I'll give that a try! Typically my bloody 4yo gets hysterical about being sprayed with anything :mad:. Will have to use a sponge!

:D It works a treat, I have used it for years - on a sponge. Most supermarkets have own brand variety much cheaper than Johnsons. Leave mud on overnight, by morning it has dried and slid off.

It also is the best thing for burrs, just squirt some on the offending articles and they fall apart in your fingers.

Another use, loosening scabs (rain scald) soak scabs in oil and they come off painlessly.

Oh, and another, for the showring, a little bit on muzzle and get that sponge out again for feet. I haven't used hoof oil for 20 years.

Excellent stuff. I buy it by the boxful.

Another vote for cheap own brand baby oil, I put it in a spray bottle and that makes it much easier to apply, and it's less wasteful as you don't get so much on your hands.
 
I use pig oil and flowers of sulphur. Not as cheap as baby oil but only use it once or twice a week depending on the weather. But works a treat no more mud for us. ;)
 
I get boots own brand, it's called 'baby bath oil' but it is exactly the same and a big bottle costs much less than a big bottle of johnsons baby oil. I think tesco do their own brand as well.

Brilliant :D. Noticed a burr in the TB's forelock this morning too, so I'll be going on a baby oil bonanza!
