How do you cope with muddy wet dogs? I've a long haired gsd at the moment and the mud is getting me down. I wash her off and towel dry but it's a constant battle to keep her and the house presentable at the moment.

Snap. I've taken to crying from frustration.
I brush/wick him off first then towel dry then pop an Equifleece on and let him dry off in garage and then into crate.
The Equifleece has really helped. I never heard of anyone putting a coat on a GSD before I came on here, but it's been fab.
Also Show Sheen on the feathers before going out and brush through if coat is tatty afterwards.

Just the black polo neck 'jumper' with front legs only, covers back and belly with cutaway for toileting. I got it for my old boy who had hair loss to keep him warm but it dries wet dogs very quickly.
It's not waterproof though if you were looking for something for her to wear out and about.

I shower the worst off - Bichon. And then towel dry and then hair dryer.

BUT I've just bought a blaster and it's going to make life much easier!

Something that would dry her off quickly would be a help, not sure I would make her wear a coat all the time. She just takes so long to dry that I worry about her getting arthritis etc.

I only have the fleece on for a short time while he dries. If she is arthritic the jumper type might not be ideal as dog's legs have to be helped into it.
I've also got a blaster on my shopping list.

Ive got 2 springers and a JRT and a silly modern house with the back door from the garden straight into the lounge :( Aside from being fully ceramic tiled downstairs, having the walls below the dado rail painted in a washable paint and having throws on the sofa we have built a small porch above the back door with a cupboard full of dog towels in it. After a walk they all jump up on the cupboard, its only about 2 ft high and get a rough towelling off and paws wiped off with a flannel. If its raining hard they do all wear a waterproof coat which helps a bit and the springers are groomed every 12 weeks, which again, does help. My washing machine washes more dog towels through the winter than anything else!! Good job I love 'em!

My big dogs have some sort of magical Teflon properties and are clean and dry within minutes of being home, not sure how, so my top tip would be to swap dog breeds. ;)

Little dog with a full coat is the polar opposite and regularly impersonates a stringy wet bog monster. He wears an Equafleece for walks which at least keeps the front leg feather and skirt dry, leaving ears and back leg feather which has to be scrubbed and blotted dry with towels, then he gets parked on some vetbed until he's mostly dry. Although not waterproof the Equafleeces are pretty water resistant, he broke the ice on a puddle today and fell in, then got squashed into the puddle by big dog #1, he still came home dry under the bits covered by the jumper.

Waterproof dog coats - I wouldn't be without them now for anything.

I bought the 'step in' type so all their tummy is kept clean and only legs and feet get mucky and they're easy to rinse and dry when we get home.

Clean up routine takes less than 10 minutes now, whereas before it could take ages and they were still wet and filthy. We walk in woodland so it gets proper nasty as well.

Get home, rinse feet, legs, tennis ball and my wellies under hose pipe. Dog coats straight in washer - the coats are filthy but the dogs are clean and dry underneath. Dry feet and legs, job's a goodun!!

Where do you get those coats please? It's mainly her tummy area that gets really muddy.

Shower and towel dry the undercarriage and legs, but just bought a blaster so when that comes it will be even easier :-)
Decent ones on amazon for around £60 delivered at the moment, 2800w.
If it is a quick round the block walk then I use a coat with a belly cover and just wipe legs down, but usually that is before I go to work so he goes straight in his large crate and dries off in there.

They came from eBay. Just search for fur lined, step in dog coat. The seller is 'doggie coats'. I searched for ages last year when I still had the Kiera pooch as she was particularly good at getting clarted. She was knocking on in years and I always felt sooo bad bathing her nearly every day.

Current woofs now have two each just in case they don't dry between walks. Funnily enough, today is the first day they've not worn them in ages as the mud froze solid overnight. It's snowing now so I guess they will be back on in the morning lol.

A good rub with a micro fibre towel seems to get most of the wet and splashed up mud off mine, even the long-haired saluki x. I bought a bundle of ten from ebay.

I use a blaster on my 2 GSDs, quick towel off of the worst of the mud and then blast away. The only issue is I have nowhere indoors to blast them so it does sometimes feel a bit of a lost cause when I am blasting in the rain. It does move the mud though, and as a bonus you can also shift the dead undercoat.

Oh dear. I appear to be a mean, horrible owner! Mine gets hosed down and banished to the conservatory until he is dry! I think he'd have heart failure if I went near him with a hair dryer!

Mine are greyhounds (I have short coated dogs for a reason lol!) so they get shut in the kitchen until they are dry - and I am resigned to a kitchen floor covered in old dog towels/turtle mats which mop up an amazing amount of the mud :)

We are stream bordered so I've trained mine to jump in the stream just before coming in the house....its belly height on my terriers so just washes everything off. Then they stay in the kitchen/dog room till they've dried off a bit before being allowed in the rest of the (cream carpeted) house 😀

End with the river! If it's too cold, I tend to towel then leave them in the kitchen til dry. If it's not quick enough, they get the hair dryer. Both youngsters have Teflon fur, all the mud ends up on the floor. They have been severely trimmed recently, which helps, not much good for a long haired GSD, tho! Mine have towelling robes and I stuck a waterproof coat with a belly flap on Bear today cos he's got very reactive skin and there was snow on the field.

Replace all carpets with tiles, it's so worth it! Good trick-dog coat on, plan the walk so you stop off at the yard/shops en route home, they're half dry by the time you get home!

Very excited - have ordered a blaster! Remember them from my old dog who did hydrotherapy and was blasted afterwards - worked a treat despite him being a Bernese Mountain Dog and rather hairy. Can't wait to use it.

Mine (two flatties) swim every day but unfortunately there are two muddy clay fields between river/pond and my house so by the time they get home they are mank. Hose them off either at yard or on patio then go through 6 towels a day drying them. Despite this my house is filthy as there is always a bit of mud left and as I don't have carpets the dirt piles get disturbed and covers everything in a film of dust.

Fed up of cleaning so very excited to get the blaster which apparently blows off mud too.

Thermatex dog bag.

Admittedly, I use it on a JRX. It might be a bit harder to manhandle a GSD into one.

Pop in him post-walk when he's muddy and wet. 20 mins in the car and he gets out at the other end warm and dry. Most of the dirt seems to have gone too.

Lovely photo :) The look like extremely well trained/behaved dogs - butter wouldn't melt!

Thank you. The two centre and right are very well behaved, naughty boy on the left, too, but certainly a character, likes to bat the l/w round the head when excited! They are very well trained.
