My fields are very wet and muddy now, never been this bad before and my 2 youngsters (rising 2yr olds) have both got the beginnings of mud-fever. I have got them both in away from the mud to try and dry their legs up a bit but don't want to keep them in any longer than necessary. I don't see the fields drying up any time soon though

They are both in with a stable and then a fenced in concrete yard at the moment and seem fairly settled, but would rather they were out tbh

Anyone have any advice as what would be best to do?

Thanks

I would (for once) wash the legs with hibi scrub and make sure they are completely dry. Then coat them with pig oil and sulphur and below the fetlocks another coating of sudocream mixed with sulphur.

You can then easily wipe them down with an old towel to get worst of mud off and reapply this every day to create a barrier against the wet - cheap and very effective.

I used to do similar to this on my TBs but in those days used baby oil and udder cream.

If it were me I would bite the bullet and keep them in the concrete yard until they are well healed and the ground dries up. The last thing you want is babies who are sensitive about having their legs messed with and that may start to happen if you need to spend lots of time scab picking.

Know what you mean about wet fields! Personally I would keep them dry until it's cleared up before tunring back out in field. I understand there are some tunrout boots that are supposed to help prevent mud fever - don't know who makes them?
