For those that haven’t followed her journey on the 3/4yr olds thread, Emulate is a 4yr old Spanish mule who I bought on a bit of a whim when she was a month old (understatement of the century, who seriously buys a mule?! ?). I have mostly been hacking her but started to do a bit more at the end of this Summer and decided she was ready to unleash on the world today….
We have been to this venue a couple of times to arena hire a course of jumps, but this was her first time seeing dressage boards and first time in a warm up. She warmed up really well until a 12.2 pony came in and she was totally transfixed- honestly, it's supposed to be the horses that can’t cope with a mule and there she was freaking out about a tiny pony ? I just about got a bit of brain back and went over.
Now, turning has always been a bit of an issue and we have a pretty constant left drift so it is a bit industrial at times. Intro A is not the friendliest test for a small mule that doesn’t steer right too well, but she actually did a pretty good job of it, only brayed once (right next to the judge's box which did at least give her and the writer a good laugh ?) and I was really pleased with 63% and 5th place out of 15 competitiors which included some quite smart baby horses ️
Next step, we try a showjumping competition. Eventing 2023 dreams remain alive…..
Sadly no pro photographer there so just a couple of blurry pics from the test
