For those that haven’t followed her journey on the 3/4yr olds thread, Emulate is a 4yr old Spanish mule who I bought on a bit of a whim when she was a month old (understatement of the century, who seriously buys a mule?! ?). I have mostly been hacking her but started to do a bit more at the end of this Summer and decided she was ready to unleash on the world today….

We have been to this venue a couple of times to arena hire a course of jumps, but this was her first time seeing dressage boards and first time in a warm up. She warmed up really well until a 12.2 pony came in and she was totally transfixed- honestly, it's supposed to be the horses that can’t cope with a mule and there she was freaking out about a tiny pony ? I just about got a bit of brain back and went over.

Now, turning has always been a bit of an issue and we have a pretty constant left drift so it is a bit industrial at times. Intro A is not the friendliest test for a small mule that doesn’t steer right too well, but she actually did a pretty good job of it, only brayed once (right next to the judge's box which did at least give her and the writer a good laugh ?) and I was really pleased with 63% and 5th place out of 15 competitiors which included some quite smart baby horses ⭐

Next step, we try a showjumping competition. Eventing 2023 dreams remain alive…..

Sadly no pro photographer there so just a couple of blurry pics from the test

I mean super willing obedient are not words people usually associate with mules so ;) . Has she met a shetland yet, that could be interesting :D

Tbh they're not really words I'd normally use to describe her either ? She is willing, but not always particularly obedient.
I think I might have to borrow a friend's sh*tland to prepare for such an occasion

I love out off the ordinary equines in competitions. Well done!

I hope she has an instagram/tictok account, you could make a fortune from it!

She is AccidentalMule on Instagram but unfortunately she has me in chard of her socials and it's not really my thing. I do think she will gather a bit of a following if we go eventing. Maybe she needs a social media manager ?

Have you heard of Kit the eventing Mule? She was around 20+ years ago in the US.

I 100% would buy a mule, especially a Spanish mule, on purpose. If that makes me crazy, then so be it ? I even browse mule classifieds from time to time.

Sounds like it was a great dressage debut for her! Looking forward to more mule reports in the future.

Do it! I was very lucky to find mine as they don’t come up very often, especially unspoilt. Maybe go direct to source…..

She's beautiful and very nicely ridden too from the look of the photos!
I know a lovely big mule who has totally made me fall in love with them and if I see a mule for sale that's big enough to take my fat backside I would totally get it. Blooming well done to you and your lovely girl!
