So, if you have more than one horse... isn't there a vet insurance plan that covers multiple horses? I mean, how do riding schools do it?

Think most riding schools don't insure their horses just "self-insure" as I bet premiums would outweigh claims.
Problem with "block" (or "fleet") type polices is if, say you have a few bay horses what's to stop you including less & if anything happens the one that's injured becomes the one insured - as lots of vets log horses under a variety of names (competition/stable/nickmane of the day/miscellaneous/etc.) it would be hard for the insurers to check they are only paying out on the horses for which premiums have been paid & don't think they're the most trusting bunch !!

My friend and I, who have 4+ horses each, self insure; it makes more sense to put the equivalent sum away monthly rather than pay an insurer, so then you know there is a pot for emergencies. It soon adds up, plus you get interest (OK not much these days!)Insurance companies have excesses, exclusions etc so at least you know you are definitely covered if you are saving the money instead!

The Standard NFU policy is multi horse and you just pick and choose the cover you want.

I've got three on my policy with them.

And from the experience of one of my horses costing the NFU just shy of £20k in the space of 18 months in vets fees (5 claims) and her loss when she was pts I'd never dare risk self insuring

Passports & microchips should put a stop to that....
