my mums not horsey!! she used to ride when she was a kid but not interested now!! was nice though as i never had pressure when i was younger! a friend did and used to get pure hell if her pony didnt get placed etc i was sooo made up that my mum was not like that!!! she will come down reluctantly to see the donkey but not very often and only if i kidnap her!!

I think you'll find quite a lot of the opposite situation - mums who are horsey and ambitious and daughters who aren't as interested, especially when they hit 14/15 and would rather go out with their mates. I think you'll have to work on your mum and get her round to you way of thinking!

If your mum is a practical sort, ie not likely to go pale at tyhe sight of mud and poo, why not ask her for help doing simple tasks for you? Perhaps she could fill haynets or make up feeds (with instructions obviously)? My friend's non horsey mum is amazing at plaiting with a needle and thread so that's her job! Other mum s might like makinhg sandwiches etc up for shows or helping serve the tea etc at rallies. Thing is to get your mum involved and make her feel helpful and of use. They often stay away when they feel they just get in the way.
Might add mine is not particularly horsey but is quite happy to fill the odd haynet etc.

My mum wasn't very horsey non of my family have ever been to a show with me or anything like that. When I was at school I used to look after my mare on my own and just hack to the local show with my friends, none of us had any transport. If you get a horse/pony try to keep it at a yard where there are others who ride at a similar level who go to show etc the you can ask if you can go with them. Offer to chip in towards the fuel.

My parents havent even seen my horses!!! Hubbies dad has been to see them loads and think they are great.

Mum worries that i will kill myself with them lol

hey,
None of my family are horsey so when I started to become addicted at the age of 3 upwards I dont think they knew what to do...!! Not only did they realise they would need to dig a huge hole in the garden for all the extra money, but when I got my first pony at 9 and she stood on my dads foot he swore he would never take part again....
Although it is hard when parents arent horsey they are normally willing to help - my mum in the end came up with me all the time and in the end actually started to like it herself...she didnt turn completely horsey and due to having two other siblings I didnt have the trailer and 4x4 to get to all the shows in the area...It was fun making jumps out of all the broken branches and tearing across gamekeeper land!!
I have only just bought my first horse trailer now and that is at 27...! So dont give up if your mum is not horsey - sometimes it works out better that way - some mums are over pushy and it could be worse - what if your mum is horsey and the child isnt...!! seen a few of those cases!!

Closest my mum ever got to horses, was waving to me out the car window as she drove past!!

Hates them, thinks I should've grown out of them by now, says I'm selfish for having one, and that I should get out more ~ like wot she does!!
Yeah, I'll sell my horse, spend it on fags, wine and clothes ~ then I'll be a REAL woman!!

Im 16 now and have had ponies with my 2 older sisters since the age of 9.
Parents arent remotely horsey, though both are animal lovers. My Dad formerly worked on his Dad's farm so didn;t see the horses as pets, so much as livestock.
8 years on and hes changed his mind and loves them like we do.

My Mum has learnt through us and can ride abit but enjoys grooming, leading, feeding etc and she knows alot more than we give her credit for.
She learned "on the job" through her pony mad children and has never looked back.

Its not a problem if theyre enthusiastic and supportive. And you usually dont have the problem of them being overly critical etc.
