I finally got Murph back, which has made him going seem so suddenly very real. But in a really weird way, I am glad he is home again. The box didnt seem very big and OH phoned vets and the crem to make sure he was 'all there' but we have been assured that he is. It does weigh a ton though!
Have decided that I am going to have a very lovely wooden box made (any suggestions for companies would be great) and put his brass name plaque on the front and use it as a doorstop, so he is always around. Thought I would get his tail plaited into a nice handle to go on it. Husband and I joked that at long last he would be useful!!
Poor boy, I keep trying to remember him how he was, not what he was like in those awful final weeks. I worry sometimes that I failed him and I should have done something more, but not sure I could have done or that I should have stayed with him until the bitter end, not just until he was knocked out by the sedative. I keep thinking I see him in the field and then I remember. But today I thought I saw him, remembered, and I smiled.
I hope that those of you who have lost your beloved horses recently can start to smile soon too.
