My friends usually fit dressage horse has been lacking energy/stamina recently, also tripping, dragging hooves when ridden. It was suggested by vet she may have a virus and a tonic was given. However there has been little change in the past month, and blood tests have shown muscle enzymes, what does this mean?. Friend has been told to continue flatwork as normal but no jumping. Any ideas anyone?.

Can be many things -- how old is horse?
& do you have any more precise details as to values etc?!
Any trauma can cause elevation of muscle enzymes, so could be anything from a small injury or back strain to more serious stuff ...
Do they have a complete blood profile?

Muscle enzymes in blood means there are damaged muscle cells somewhere, that have ruptured and released their content into the blood.

Muscle damage is an obvious cause but I would definitly be testing for EPMS (PSSM) as it causes all the symptoms you describe. Is the horses partbred draft?
