Muscle sweating?? Strange location

I wonder if anyone has come across this before and can shed some light - my TB sweats in a particular patch on the nearside of his hindquaters ; just one side; the location is over where the hip joint lies and the size is about 2 inchs width x 8 inches length
Vet's had a look (briefly because we were treating him for something else at the time) didn't seem worried, thought it might be to do with the nerves
He will sweat here ahead of sweating at the 'normal' locations such as girth area and neck
It's been going on since beginning of winter; but becoming more marked due to warmer days (not clipped this year but never clipped over the hindquarters area in any case and not been noted in previous years)
Any ideas would be much appreciated

If you search back there are some posts about this- conclusion is that it is either an area of nerve damage, ie site of injury or injection? some sort of trauma, or even birthmark. Mine has a sweat patch like you describe on her hindquarters too.
 
Our big ginger lad developed this last autumn, on his shoulder just below the withers. It comes and goes and is in a patch a similar size to the one you describe. The vet thought nerve damage but could be worse and ended up referring him to the RVC in Potters Bar. Several days (and a couple of grand) later he'd had every test known to man (brain scan, blood tests, ultrasound and more) and they concluded...nerve damage. Possibly from rolling on a flint in the field or any number of other innocent explanations. It will probably go away on its own. I think with our great galoof, because of the location near his neck it could have been something more sinister. Hopefully on the flank it could be less so. Someone else on the yard had a mare who'd "always" had a sweat patch on her flank and it made no difference to her health or performance. Hope yours is similar

yes, it is a symptom of localised damage. my grey mare (in siggy) had a thrombosis in a hindleg at about 8 yrs old, time off for it, and for a very long time afterwards that area would darken with sweat before anywhere else did. it did not seem to affect her in any way though so i learnt to ignore it.
 
Thanks everyone- thats really helpful and has put my mind at ease. He's out of work at the moment due to another illness so will see what he's like when he's back in work.
