Hi all,
STORYTIME:
Back in April this year my horse had slipped over in the paddock and was extremely lame. We thought he had done something to his coffin joint as we took him to the vets and they thought it was that, however wasn't completley blocking to the joint when they would block it. They reccomended us to get a MRI on the coffin joint and it just showed some mild bruising. At this point we were treating him for a bruised bone however with 8 weeks box rest he was sound walking in a straight line however turning he was still lame. We took him back to the vets and they did more tests on him and he came back lamer than when we took him in. They then thought it was higher in the leg so told us to get another MRI of his knee to hoof. This time nothing showed and the bruise in his bone had healed yet my horse was still lame. This has now brought us up to July. It got to a point where I didn't know what to do anymore and the Vets had no idea what he had done. I realised I needed to try and figure out what was wrong with him because my other option was to put him to rest as we couldn't see him improving. I gave it a month because i felt like i couldn't do that without finding out what was wrong with him and so I just left him in a confined paddock and let him be a horse. He slowly started to show improvement again. On one of the days I kinda just felt like making my own rehab up because I really had no other choice. I started noticing when i would walk on the left side of him and push his shoulder towards his right, he then started showing that he was turning so much easier. This is where i found that this wasn't in the leg it was in his shoulder. I then got out a physio and within 5 minutes of her being there she looked at him front ways and felt his left shoulder and found 3 tears in it. This has now brought us up to late august and early september. He had 3 intensive weeks at a rehab clinic getting red light therapy, shockwave therapy, hoverboard therapy and walked daily. He showed a drastic improvement in his walk and turning mainly and his happiness. He is now getting shockwave every 2-3 weeks and is stabled every night and in a very small yard. I am really hoping he will make a full recovery but wanting to hear if anyone else has had any similar to this injury and would love to hear if you have and how long they took to recover, and any other tips for speeding up the recovery process (if that is possible). Im desperate, this has been an extremely tough journey as he is my 2* horse and means the world to me.
