after suggestions of how to deal with my spooky horse the other night, i tried putting music on to distract him. didn't really work with him i don't think- but it definitely distracted ME a little and made me better able to ignore his antics- meaning that i actually got some good work in the end :) so... now i need some suggestions of music that is good for schooling to- so i can load up my ipod :)- nothing too peaceful as that will just bore me- something i can sing along to preferably (tonight the song of choice was the baywatch theme which happened to be on my phone :o )

i have a playlist JUST for this :)
Madonna - Hung Up
Prodigy - Invaders Must Die
Let the sun shine - labryinth
secrets - one republic
kings and queens - 30 seconds to mars
i'm all over it - jamie cullum
PM's Love Theme/Glasgow Love Theme - Love Actually
In the hall of the mountain king from 'the social network'
higher - the saturdays
I am the doctor - murray gold
barbra streisand - duck sauce
lets go surfing - the drums
paloma faith - upside down
adieums - ??
the blessed spirits - vanessa mae.

all of them are good to ride to :D

brushingboots- you've made me feel my age...haven't even heard of half of those songs :o
good ideas people... i once got told (it might be complete codswallop mind) that anky schools to rage against the machine! :D

If it was me, I would be listening to things from musicals (background music) or different music from my favourite films (Pirates of the Caribbean is fun to work with :P)

Agree kerilli James blunt is good, I also like Elton John (should I admit that it public?!) because you can sing along but it's pretty laid back! Probably depends on the horse you are schooling tho?

I wouldn't worry about admitting you like Elton John! I'm going to admit that I find country music quite good to ride to!! :D

oooh yes elton john is a good idea! i LOVE elton john (james blunt, however....snooze time :p)

Lol, was just thinking that listening to James Blunt would get me too agitated, find him dull as dishwater and there's something about his voice in interviews that makes me want to punch him (sorry Kerilli!!!).

I've not listened to music when riding for a long time but I was thinking about it as it makes a big difference when I'm running. For a short fast run, I like "feel-good" music with a good beat - Superstylin' by Groove Armada for example. When I'm doing a longer run I prefer more relaxing tunes so I pace myself and reckon these would be good for riding. Some genuine r'n'b (i.e. with proper singers and musicians, not modern over-produced tunes you hear on Radio 1 - I'm probably showing my age!) like Jill Scott or some more chilled Neptunes-produced stuff could be good as it has a clear, relaxed beat.

Oh good glad I haven't just made myself sounds 20+ years older than I am! Have an excellent Elton John greatest hits album on my iPod perfect for schooling!

Ps it's Elton night on xfactor tonight, and we are going to see him in June next year! Now I may need to hide for a while ;)

Ah i love James Blunt! Think i might nick your idea and wack my ipod in next time i school, cause when i concentrate too much it all goes tits up, so hopefully it will distract me a bit! :)

well i tried again today and it definitely works! he was a brat for about 20 minutes and then pretty good :D too fast and powering round but soft and working over his back- much better than the crap i've had from him recently which has been fixed outline and teeth grinding (nasty :( )

one of my friends had an...ahem...'intimate' moment with james blunt. i feel sick at the very thought.... :p

I've never schooled to music, but tonight Sam was being a complete tit to plait. Radio 2 was on in the tackroom and they played Amy Winehouse's 'Back to Black'. I don't often sing but I love that song so I started singing along, and didn't the little monkey fall asleep, just in time to do his forelock!!! Hoorah!
