Does anyone listen to music while they ride?

How do you listen to it? (Phone, airpods etc?)

What songs are on your riding playlist?

I have done purely to help my nerves. I like anything that I can sing along to really, on my current riding playlist I have anything from Foo Fighters to Sia to Calvin Harris. I just play on either my phone's loudspeaker (when others aren't around) or I use earphones and my phone in an inside pocket.

Not often but I do sometimes if I'm on my own in the arena or out hacking. Had a great moment doing a fab bit of canter work to Carmina Burana once - it's the most awesome track to ride to, you should have a listen.

I just play it on my phone speaker, no headset, as I still want to be able to hear other noises.

I always hack Millie around the fields with a podcast playing as she’s less idiotic with the background noise drowning out the sound of sparrows farting or whatever it is she feels like having a trauma over!
Occasionally I’ll stick some music on my phone while schooling. I’m a blues rock kind of girl so it’s usually Joe Bonamassa, Gary Moore etc

Yes. Mostly show tunes - good rhythm. I have a little Bluetooth speaker which works quite well. With my last (late) horse, she could get quite anxious and I played Alexis Ffrench quite a lot. She seemed to like him and would settle.

I love a bit of music while I ride. I have walk, trot and canter playlists matched to my horse’s rhythm. The best discovery ever that I made was a Stride Audio Bluetooth wrist speaker.

We have an Alexa in the indoor.....only problem is that either she/it doesn't understand my accent or has never heard of the ancient music that I prefer! Therefore I inevitably end up working to peace and quiet! :D

I usually have music on when schooling on my own just cause I think my horse quite likes it ;)
I just put my phone on speaker and have it in my pocket (I am at home not on a yard).

You'll all think I'm bonkers for saying this but he genuinely loves Stormzy and goes really well whenever we listen to him!

I usually hack with audiobooks playing - because god knows serial hacking gets dull otherwise. I sometimes have music on when schooling if I don't want the distraction of an audiobook, depending on my mood. I usually play it through the phone's speaker or run it through a single head phone. I do have a wrist speaker but don't routinely bother with it.

If you like true crime podcasts, I can heartily recommend Red Handed.

Never while riding, but i have discovered my horses like choral voice music, so find myself singing hymns to them to get them settled when needed. It works too well, noses hang to the floor and legs start buckling ?

The rural quiet gets pretty dull if you're hacking multiple horses a day, in addition to yard duties. I like to hear the birds, but incessant wind, tractors, wretched dogs barking... I think I'll take the distraction of an audiobook!

If you've got the music you like on your phone you can Bluetooth to Alexa

Those that use wrist speakers, what ones do you have?
I'm not keen on head phones as I ride a fairly spooky horse and it gives me a bit more reassurance being able to hear what he hears

Any ideas for head phones in windy weather alternatives?
I don't think anyone should be too judgy, I can ride 7 or more a day, depending on the horse or situation I will either listen to music or podcasts.
Listening to British history podcast while filling haynets, need the distraction! I hate filling haynets ?

Great, crack on, but I would not allow my horse to be ridden or handled by someone who insists on being plugged into headphones whilst doing so.

To be fair I wouldn't use headphones for riding as I like to be able to hear anything terrifying that my horse might hear. But I do occasionally have music playing from my phone. I wouldn't for hacking (as I like this to be peaceful) but in the school I find it helpful to have something playing with a beat to keep me thinking forward and in a positive rhythm!

Not a fan of using headphones whilst riding, more from a safety aspect, but for those of you doing/thinking of doing it, take a look at Aftershokz. I use them when running and as bone conductors they leave the ear itself open and therefore you can be aware of everything around you.

I don't like headphones in any situation, but if it's too windy to hear, I use a single headphone in my left ear - I can hear both the audio and the world around me clearly, or at least, I can hear the wind noise which is all you can hear at the moment anyway.

If I'm on my own in the indoor, then I'll use my wee bluetooth speaker. It helps to dull the noise of the giant welsh eating beasties that are outside the school (apparently!). Listen to all sorts: George Ezra, London Grammar, Florence and the Machine, U2, Eurythmics - he seemed to really enjoy Wolf Alice the other night! Also our local venues all seem to have music in the warmup so I figured that it is good to get used to it. My longer term plan is to do some DTM, so want to find good walk, trot and canter music for schooling - but at the moment, it is just background noise.

Sometimes when schooling - I use headphones and try and listen to something on the slower/rhythmical side

I wouldn’t out hacking as either I like to hear the birds singing etc. Or I can listen for dogs, bikes, loggers etc. That may upset my horse.

I’d quite like to when schooling but not using headphones. One yard I was at had a brilliant sound system and I loved riding to that. I think it helps settle my negative thoughts as I can get quite tense schooling and also my horse seemed to respond well either to the music or me listening to the music.
