i'm forever seeing for sale adverts saying this horse/pony must go by the weekend! well what happens if the horse isn't sold by the said deadline? surely they are not just left on the side of the road?

I was just wondering have you been in the horrible situation of needing a fast sale and you've written 'this horse must go by...' and what responses have you had??

I think the perception from most of us is that this is a cynical marketing ploy designed to pull at the heartstrings of the reader. The only people this is likely to work with are novice owners who will generally end up with something totally inappropriate if they fall for it.

Of course if it is true I imagine they tootle off on a trailer to Potters if not sold, there is at least some return in those circumstances.

I've been in that situation twice with the same pony :( :(
It's a long story but basicly my boss said he had to be gone off the yard in three days or she was going to have him shot. So I found lots of wanted ads and phoned them till i found someone who i thought was sutable and able to take him on loan quickly. After a few months of her saying everything was fine and how much she loved him she phoned and said he was dangorous and had attacked her other pony and someone else at the yard and he had to be gone in three days or he was going to be shot. I ended up giving him away in the end to anyone who would take him as i just couldn't have him back at the time :( :( :( :(
He was such a sweetheart and i miss him everyday (have lost contact with the person i gave him to :( another long story) It was an awful situation but i had no choice. I feel like i let him down. I know the first time he would have been shot and i'm prity shore the girl who had him on loan wasn't joking either but i wasn't going to take the risk.
Although sometimes i do think it is put in an ad just to tug on the heart strings abit so the horse is gone sooner.
