" must not be ridden" I thought this was good idea

My friend bought her new companion horse home yeserday, must never be ridden due to kissing spine so the old owners rightly or wrongly have wrote in big letters in perm marker across the front page " this horse must never be ridden" I actually though this was a good idea. What's your view on this?

I think it was a good idea, i have known people to buy a horse was down as "not to be ridden" because it was cheap, then ride it
So it think that really put the message across.

I just think if the wrong people had taken the horse and was going to sell on as a riding horse the passport states all!!!! Unless they got a new passport. But I was quite impressed with the idea, never seen it done before but maybe more people should.
I know if I sell a horse I always make sure my phone number is left in passport so any new owner can contact me if they have any problems how ever far down the line.

Oh right, i didn't realise it was on the passport, but i do agree with you, its a very good idea.

It is a good idea - it wouldn't stop people riding the horse / pony if they were so inclined - but a good idea.

Very good idea, I think certainly means if the wrong people had bought it, they could never sell it as a ridden horse, or take it to shows or anything in case of passport inspections. Nice to see the previous owners have the horse's best interests in mind

I'm wondering if there was a freezemark that could be applied to a horse's shoulder that would say the same thing. I've heard about it for LOU, but a LOU horse is not necessarily unrideable.

I would imagine anyone dodgy would simply declare the passport lost, get a new one and sell the horse as a riding horse. Best to put the horse on loan and keep a close eye on him.

On the face of it a good idea, but if you were the type of person who would buy a companion horse and then pass it off as sound it'd be just as easy to say the passport was lost and apply for a new one.

Also some lame horses, never to be ridden again do come sound after a long rest..

Is a good idea tho and better than nothing

I think there should be a mandatory freezebrand put on for horses that can't be ridden.
Like "UR" (Un-Ridable) or "NTBR" (Not To Be Ridden) something like that so people know and they can't be fobbed off on novices

There are a lot of unscrupulous people out there.

Personally, I could not let a horse of mine with a condition such as kissing spines leave my control, I would never sleep at night. Better to put him to sleep for his sake and your own peace of mind.

I really like this idea, would be good if owners could/would do it. Would stop dangerous horses being passed round and round and somebody getting hurt.
