Musty hay

Had a nightmare with hay this winter, first ours was contaminated with rat droppings then we got a load in with oak leaves and now I have a really good hay man who’s hay the the horses love however typically he has gotten the flu and isn’t delivering at the mo, leaving me short of hay. So I got a couple of bales off a friend to do us for a couple days but it’s very musty and although it’s not “mouldy” when you take a close look there are tiny spore type things that I’m guessing is the formation of mould or dust I’m not sure (it has both a musty smell and is dusty when shaken). What do I do?! Would you feed it? We have very little grass left and I would like them in off the mud tonight as per but I’m worried I’m going to harm them. I was thinking about soaking it really well to settle the dust?

I wouldn't risk it. Horses are so susceptible to dust allergy and often get left compromised for life. Plus a bottle ventipulmin is £65 plus.

I think weight loss is a better option, than can be fixed, a lot of wind issues can't.
